Who is it for?

The First Aid Response course covers all of the occupational first aid requirements for places of work as outlined by the Health and Safety Authority. Employees of small, medium or large enterprises across all sectors and the self-employed. It is the recommendation by Tusla for all Pre-School Staff.

Requirements

There are no requirements for this course, individuals should be able to perform CPR, assist in relieving a choking patient and perform basic first aid tasks throughout the course.

Duration

3 Days (20-24 hrs of instruction)

8 x 3 Hr evenings (special requests for specific groups considered)

  2. Incident Procedure

  3. Cardiac First Response - Community Level

  4. Common Medical Emergencies (Asthma, Diabetes, Seizures, Poisons, Fainting, Anaphylaxis)

  5. Injury Management & Shock

  6. Care of the Unconscious Patient

  7. Burns and Electrical Injury Care

  8. Hypothermia & Hyperthermia

  9. Information Management

  10. Communications

  11. The Well-Being of the First Aider

Learning outcomes

  1. Recognise and Assess the causes and effects of sudden illness and/or injury in a pre-hospital environment and call for emergency medical services.

  2. React to such pre-hospital emergencies.

  3. Respond in a safe, effective, and appropriate manner to such emergencies utilising the First Aid Response skill set.

  4. Record and Report actions and interventions taken while responding to and managing such incidents and during handover to emergency medical services.

  5. Retain a caring attitude in their role as First Aid Responders.

Assessments

The mandatory components are:

  1. 5 First Aid Responder Skill Stations including CFR Community skill assessment sheet

  2. A 30-minute, 20 question MCQ written exam; the pass mark is 60%

Method of Delivery

The course is facilitated by an instructor who will use PowerPoint presentation, DVD and practical sessions to guide you through the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with a certificate in First Aid Response

Certificate is valid for 2 years.

Student Ratio

8 students max per 1 instructor

Renewal/Refresher

To maintain your qualification after your two-year certification period, you will be required to undertake a refresher course. The refresher course consists of a two-day course 16 hours of instruction designed to refresh the knowledge and skills you learned from your initial training. You must have a valid First Aid Response certificate to partake of this course.

If FAR certificate is not in date, student will need to participate in full 3-day course again

Cost

€240 per person for 3 day full FAR course

€150 per person for 2 day Refresher FAR course.
