According to the Irish Red Cross, research by the charity shows that only 5% of the Irish population know first aid.
The Principles of First Aid are as follows;
Preserve Life – stop the person from dying.
Prevent Further Injury – stop the person from being injured even more. If possible, an injured person should not be moved.
Promote Recovery – try to help the person heal their injuries.
Who’s it for?
In essence, everybody should know how to perform Emergency First Aid in all walks of life.
Duration
1 day (6-7 hrs of instruction)
2 x 3hr evenings
Course Content
Introduction to First Aid
Accident Management and Patient Assessment inc Recovery Position
Respiratory Emergencies (Asthma)
Common Medical Emergencies (Diabetes, Seizures/Epilepsy & Anaphylaxis)
Cardiac First Response- CPR (introduction to AED)
Wounds, Bleeding & Shock
Altered Levels of Consciousness
Musculoskeletal Injuries including sprains, strains, fractures & dislocations
Burns & Scalds, Chemicals, Poisons and Electric Shock
Hypothermia (Inc cold water shock) & Hyperthermia (Heat Stroke/Exhaustion)
Method of Delitvery
The course is facilitated by an instructor who will use PowerPoint presentation and practical sessions to guide you through the course.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with a certificate for Emergency First Aid from Vital Obs Donegal. Certificate valid for 2 years.
